These bobbins of thread belonged to my grandmother Olly (you can read about her here), a costume designer whose creativity - I like to think - is carried on in me. I’ve always loved these spools—not just for their texture and color, but for what they symbolize. Thread binds and repairs; It mends what is torn and connects what might otherwise unravel. It sews new things into being. Metaphorically, It connects us to each other and holds together what time and distance might pull apart.
